This professional couple had an original 1940s colonial with a small galley kitchen. With an expanding family and lots of friends; they wanted a larger place to host their frequent gatherings. A new kitchen was part of a larger project to renovate this home.
Client Needs for the Kitchen Met:

• Enough storage to accommodate all kitchen supplies

The before home was a typical 1940s Colonial with a quaint floorplan including a small galley kitchen.
The after home includes a two-story addition with a large kitchen, sitting area and eating area on the main level. The kitchen provides gracious access to a new patio. The former small galley kitchen is now a Butler’s Pantry.
Before kitchen was a narrow galley kitchen; lacking functionality and needing repairs.
After. The homeowner wanted family to help with big meals and didn’t want to be stuck in the kitchen alone, like she previously was in the small galley kitchen. The circulation and gracious space in the new kitchen allows for lots of helping hands.
BEAUTIFUL AND FUNCTIONAL: Open space with large windows and French doors make outside and inside look like one great space. Natural light is supported by recessed lighting, the Cage Chandelier in Olde Silver and Teardrop Pendants in brushed nickel.
The homeowner fell in love with this Cambria countertop in Seagrove, on the Denim toned cabinets in the island and beverage area. The perimeter cabinets and tops are in complementary simple white. The backsplash is Soho Studio’s Basket Weave marble in shades of soothing warm grays.
A suite of Thermador appliances anchor the work triangle. An oven/microwave combination unit, a 30-inch dual fuel range, and 36-inch refrigerator are the perfect appliances for homeowner’s who love to entertain.
A beverage area is complete with sink, space for the coffee maker, glass/mug storage and ice maker.
THE DETAILS MAKE A DIFFERENCE: The beverage sink is Blanco Precis 20” in a Granite composite for a unique look. Faucet and instant hot in stainless steel to match the polished chrome pulls.
The raised beverage refrigerator and wine storage is “kid proof” and easy on older backs.
The main kitchen sink is 45” in stainless steel and has many unique features: A deep sink the client wanted and Kohler Tournant Pullout Spray faucet with high arch that is perfect for all tasks.
Removable butcher block allows client to use the block for food prep but remove it to reveal a drying area during clean up.
SUPERIOR CRAFTSMANSHIP: You can never have too much storage. This kitchen has no wasted space. Cabinets tucked under the island skirt store infrequently used items like vases.
Pull out drawers behind faux island legs accommodate spices and oils near the stove.
Our clients love to go to the farmer’s market often to stock up on fresh products. So, having an extra-large 36-inch “all refrigerator” was important.
Use of frozen products is minimal. Two freezer drawers meet the need.
The kitchen’s sitting room and eating area are perfect for the two homeowners and can expand with company.
Taking advantage of the deep area behind the refrigerator allowed for roll outs for larger kitchen items.
The before galley kitchen shown above is now a Butler’s Pantry and Food Storage Area.
BEAUTIFUL AND FUNCTIONAL: Lights on dimmer can make the space a focal point or “disappear” at night.
Custom drawers with locks keep heirlooms safe yet accessible for quick set up when entertaining. The design was intended to make this a little “jewel box” in the center of the home. Demin colored custom cabinets with gold pulls are fun yet elegant. Backsplash is artistic tiles in Jazz Glass.
OBSTACLES OVERCOME / CREATIVE SOLUTIONS:
After the project was completed, the client was feeling back pain while working at the kitchen sink and asked us to develop a solution. We removed the countertop without destroying the backsplash and had it altered to reduce the width of the top in front of the sink.
Reducing the width of the countertop at the sink allowed for the client to get closer to the sink… alleviating back pain.
Meeting our clients’ needs is our top priority.
This addition added functionality, beauty, spectacular craftsmanship in a comfortable yet elegant manner.
THE FINAL RESULT: Our clients love their kitchen. The design has met all their needs adding tons more functionality. The client sent us family photos of Christmas morning with a caption saying how happy they were to gather easily with their extended family in the new space. And the greatest compliment was the client saying, “I wouldn’t change a thing about the design or our experience.”
