2015 Grand Award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) for Custom Homes Under $1M
Our clients were considering a renovation of their home when a tree fell and demolished their house beyond repair. So, realizing that they could start with a clean slate, this empty nest couple they told us they wanted to create a home that was “cozy, lively, charming, warm, peaceful, stimulating, and harmonious”. Translation: they wanted the home to have a cottage look but with interesting architectural features. We designed and built a functional four bedroom, three and a half bath, three story home on their ¼ acre lot… and built it with a lot of heart and soul.
New Cottage Home Front Elevation
A close up of the front facade shows the floating staircase in the large front feature window. Stucco finish, the touch of dark green window trim around multiple sized windows and the splash of red metal roofing create an overall pleasing look.
Walk in the front door and walk into the living room with sitting area around the fireplace. The mantle was recovered from their former home. We used Nero Marquina marble on the surround and painted the mantle bright white for impact.
Custom Espresso on Maple cabinets with a dramatic granite counter top, tumbled travertine tile backsplash with glass mosaic accent border, Kohler Dune colored farm sink, stainless appliances and cabinet hardware create a contemporary look with rustic vibes.
The family room is anchored by the fireplace.
The clients loved the coziness of their original dining nook so the new dining room was kept simple and down scaled to recreate the intimacy of the former space.
Mudroom/Butler’s Pantry with large format porcelain slate look tile makes perfect beverage service area between kitchen and dining room. Use of matching cabinets in kitchen and Butler’s Pantry adds continuity with the antique drawn glass cabinet doors adding sophistication.
Full Bath on main level: Walk in shower is intended to help older guests and those with mobility issues feel at home. Retro black and white color scheme nods to age of original home.
The floating stairs are a work of art.
A window divides this his and her large walk-in master closet.
Master Bedroom: Dark beams, tucked in shelving and reading nook help keep room from feeling too large – giving the client the cozy, intimate feeling they prefer.
Master Bathroom: architectural details pull the view directly to the natural beauty of the backyard – which was why the clients originally bought the property.
