- Family Foyer Addition with Covered Porch
- Additional Garage and Storage Space
- Remodel Laundry, Powder Room, and Mudroom
- Remodel Kitchen
- Remodel Bar /Butler’s Pantry and Walk-in Pantry
- Create a “Fireplace Hearth” Room near the Kitchen
- Circulation to the Screen Porch
Client’s Stated Needs/Wants | How We Met their Needs/Wants |
---|---|
• Better functionality – space use of the garage and the transition from the garage to home.
• Eliminate people entering thru the garage – create a foyer and additional space for the laundry/mud room. • Create a “family entrance” that compliments the rest of the house. | – We created a new, oversized, two-car garage to accommodate the family’s larger vehicles.
– We modified their existing three small bay garages to a larger bay two-car garage and borrowed part of that space for a new laundry area and powder room. – We created a family foyer that included a larger entry space from the garages, a large coat/storage closet, a caterer’s kitchen, walls for family bulletin boards to keep them organized, a larger laundry room and powder room. |
• Open up the screened porch to the kitchen so we use it more frequently – better traffic pattern. Today, we need to go onto open deck to get to the screened porch. | – While redesigning the kitchen, we made space for an exterior door leading directly to the screened porch. |
• Update the kitchen – improve the counter area and cabinet storage. | – The kitchen has been completed redesigned with ample counter space, an eating space within the island and lots more cabinet storage. |
• Need a larger pantry area. | – By reorganizing the existing Butler’s pantry and pantry, we were able to create a walk-in pantry to meet the client’s need. |
• Better uses of the space in front of the sliding doors – perhaps a seating area where people can sit – drink/eat while cooking in kitchen is going on. | – We redesigned the existing breakfast room and created a Hearth Side room, complete with a fire place and space for cozy chairs and a cocktail table. |
• Create more rustic environment – would like to alter the ceiling, use stone versus brick for accents – change flooring, etc. | – Throughout the renovation, we found ways to incorporate rustic elements; reclaimed flooring, reclaimed wood for a custom pantry door (with forged hinges from a local blacksmith), hammered copper vent hood and more. |
